Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
What do you do exactly?
We link to the vehicle’s ECU (its ‘brain’) using our specialist Remap2Race equipment via the diagnostic socket. From there, we read the existing engine management file and replace it with a custom-optimised version, tailored specifically for your vehicle.
On some vehicles, it’s not possible to access the ECU through the diagnostic socket. In these cases, we remove the ECU and carry out the process directly via chip change or boot-loading. The result is exactly the same – only the method differs.
Depending on the vehicle, the remap usually takes less than an hour to complete.
Is it safe for the vehicle?
Yes – absolutely. Our remapping process enhances and optimises the engine’s power within safe limits, never beyond them. The added power often results in smoother performance and fewer gear changes.
Manufacturers build in large tolerances to cover wear and tear, production variations, and warranty claims (usually within the first three years). Remapping makes better use of this safe potential.
Each engine is different, but a quality remap from a professional tuner will never approach the limits that could cause component failure.
Beware of tuners who promise unrealistic gains – it usually means the engine is being pushed too far, which can lead to unreliability.
Why don’t the manufacturers do it?
Manufacturers sell vehicles worldwide and must comply with different emissions rules, climates, fuel qualities, and altitudes. This means they have to make compromises so that one version of the vehicle suits all markets.
Marketing also plays a role. If you look at the torque graph in a manufacturer’s brochure, you’ll often see it rise, flatten, then drop off – not how an engine naturally performs. This is designed to meet tax regulations or achieve headline torque figures that look better than competitors.
What warranty do you give?
Every Remap2Race ECU remap is covered by our lifetime software warranty, ensuring your complete peace of mind.
If a software fault occurs, we’ll re-install it free of charge. A properly remapped and well-maintained engine will not cause technical issues.
In the unlikely event of a problem caused by the upgrade, we’ll stand 100% behind our work.

What is remapping?
Remapping is the process of optimising your vehicle’s engine control system.
If you want to tune your vehicle while keeping all the safety and durability features (engine, transmission, ESP, etc.) intact, the right way is to make controlled adjustments within the existing ECU software.
That’s exactly what we do. Our remapping process gives us total control over engine parameters without tricking or deceiving the system. This means you keep all the manufacturer’s built-in protections – just with improved performance and efficiency.
Do you offer a trial period?
Yes – we’re confident you’ll love it. Try your Remap2Race remap for 14 days.
If you’re not delighted with the results, we’ll remove it and refund you in full (a small labour charge of £50 applies).
Do you keep a copy of the original tuning file?
Yes. We securely store your original ECU file so that we can restore your vehicle to factory settings at any time if required.
What about insurance?
It’s your responsibility to inform your insurer of any modification.
However, many insurers now recognise the benefits of economy remaps and no longer penalise customers for them. We can provide a certificate of conformity if needed.
Remember – if your car is second-hand, it may have been remapped before without your knowledge. We often find vehicles that already have previous tuning installed, so be sure to consider that when discussing your policy with your insurer.
Does it affect the manufacturer’s warranty?
This isn’t a simple yes or no.
EU laws exist to prevent anti-competitive behaviour in the motor industry. It’s generally considered against these rules for manufacturers to invalidate a warranty just because a vehicle has been worked on by a reputable aftermarket specialist.
That said, if your handbook explicitly states otherwise, your warranty could be affected – but the manufacturer would first have to prove both that:
1️⃣ the vehicle has been remapped, and
2️⃣ the remap directly caused the failure.
We only provide tested, safe remaps within the vehicle’s mechanical limits. To give additional reassurance, we offer optional UK-based insurance cover that protects you in the extremely rare event of an issue not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
Under the European Block Exemption Ruling, a manufacturer cannot void a warranty claim unless they can prove that the aftermarket work directly caused the problem. The burden of proof lies with the manufacturer.
How does the remap improve the vehicle?
A Remap2Race remap fine-tunes your engine’s fuel, boost, and torque characteristics.
By carefully adjusting parameters such as:
- Fuel pressure and injection quantity
- Boost pressure from the turbocharger
- Torque delivery curve
- Permissible smoke limits
We achieve a fully controllable, efficient improvement in performance while keeping all factory safeguards in place.
